The city of Mashad, capital of the vast Khorassan province, is located in northeastern Iran. Mashad has a long and rich history in carpet making and is known for producing good quality carpets in all possible sizes and many times larger sizes. The wool used in these carpets comes from Khorassan and is considered to be one of the best qualities of wool in the country. This makes Mashad carpets feel particularly soft.
Mashad carpets often resemble Keshan carpets. They typically have a large central medallion in red and dark blue hues, sometimes with a distinct purple hue, adorned with lighter floral Herati patterns.
The colors of this rug vary depending on which side it is viewed from. This means that the carpet has a light and a dark side because of the location of the pile. You can play with this visible effect and decide in advance where the light side of the carpet should be visible.
