This Lori, hand-knotted in south-west Persia, is a finer version of the Gabbeh carpet. They are usually characterized by intensely colored, geometric patterns and monochrome designs. Lori carpets are mainly in a color spectrum that refers to cream, brown, yellow and gray tones. Red or blue are also less common.
Depending on the viewing angle, you can see clear light and dark shades of the pile yarn. The reason for this is that Pile yarn runs transversely to the lengthwise direction, which makes the colors shimmer brightly and makes the carpet insensitive to dirt.
The colors of this rug vary depending on which side it is viewed from. This means that the carpet has a light and a dark side because of the location of the pile. You can play with this visible effect and decide in advance where the light side of the carpet should be visible.
