Today we at BeyondKnots are introducing you to something very special:  Samarkand carpets.

They have now become a fairly rare type of carpet. The patterns of Samarkand are mostly inspired by traditional kilim patterns. Stripes or geometric shapes are typical. Samarkand carpets are hand-knotted, vegetable-dyed and made from pure new wool from the central Afghan mountains near Ghazni. The Ghazni wool is considered to be of particularly high quality because the sheep produce finer wool at certain altitudes due to improved air quality. The namesake and original place of origin of these unique carpets is the city of Samarkand, a city in Uzbekistan with 350.000 inhabitants.
The modern Samarkand carpets combine traditional craftsmanship and classic oriental ornaments with more modern shapes and colors, creating a contemporary design requirements are met. Often also found under the name Khorjin (Khurjeen), they are first hand-knotted by nomads in Afghanistan and then transported to Pakistan to be cleaned and finished there. Each hand-knotted Samarkand has a particularly unique pattern and a harmonious, colorful color scheme. Our Samarkand carpets have 350.000 knots per square meter. In addition, Samarkand carpets are flat-woven with a pile height of 8mm (short pile).

Caring for wool carpets

A Samarkand carpet is a work of art that should be handled with care. Of course, proper care should not be missing. The carpets are made from 100 percent pure new wool, a natural product that is well protected against moisture. This makes the carpet washable. We'll explain exactly how you should proceed: Prepare mild soapy water from wool detergent and carefully massage it into the carpet. Carpets made of virgin wool are then best dabbed with a cloth and vacuumed thoroughly again after drying.
To ensure that your carpet needs to be cleaned as rarely as possible, it is best to remove even small stains immediately.

Styling tips for your interior
